Mary Rose Caters Gala at The Villages
Mary Rose helped cater and serve at the gala opening of the Sharon Morse Performing Arts Center at The Villages in central Florida. The Villages were started in 1983 by Sharon and her husband, developer H. Gary Morse. The performing arts center is a memorial to Sharon who died of cancer in 1999 at age 63. Mary Rose said:
I sliced the turkey -- the two real chefs sliced the filet mignon and ham. It was SO chi-chi with a great band, mounds of crab, a pyramid of shrimp, a huge smoked salmon with capers and onions. Before that were bite-sized appetizers, and desserts of tiny cheesecakes. OMG the quality of the food was fantastic. What a fun job!

Greg Dies One Month After Davy
My brothers Greg and Dave died of the same thing, about a month apart. Greg died at home in Arlington, VA on October 5, 2014, two days before I was scheduled to arrive. His memorial was scheduled two weeks later, after I had spent 10 days in Virginia, but many members of the Kane family helped distribute his ashes into the Potomac, guided by Franky and Mary Rose.
Back in Portland, OR, Greg slipped into sepsis in early October, and my sisters Connie and Laurie became suspicious even though Greg strongly denied anything was wrong. Greg's wife had moved out several months prior and had served him with divorce papers. Greg's son was struggling through senior year of high school.
Connie and Laurie got Greg to Kaiser which kept him in ICU for their one-month maximum, but as soon as he was transferred to skilled nursing he went into a steep decline from which he never recovered. I was at his bedside in his final hours, singing to him. It seemed to calm him.
Connie, Peggy and Laurie all spent tremendous time and energy in their efforts to prop up Greg's health, having someone at his bedside nearly all the time, even hand-feeding him. But Greg went to meet Davy in the afterlife on November 17.
I hope they weren't disappointed to learn that... in heaven there is no beer.
